The Guia Lighthouse, completed in 1865, holds a remarkable distinction. It was the first Western-style lighthouse anywhere on the coast of China. The lighthouse was originally lit by an oil lamp with a rotating lens, and it still operates today, its light visible on clear nights from as far as twenty kilometres away.
